February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Your favorite dentist, Dr. Michael Neeley, and our entire office will be celebrating this special occasion by joining dental professionals and educators around the country in promoting the benefits of exceptional oral hygiene habits in children. The theme is “Defeat Monster Mouth” and we are encouraging parents to teach their children about the dangers of plaque (caused by Plaqster the Monster), tartar buildup and tooth decay in Dallas, TX. We know that starting children early on good oral care can produce a lifetime of strong, healthy teeth and gums.

Exceptional Oral Care in Children

Teaching your child to properly care for their teeth at a young age can result in lifelong benefits. Our office believes that the first way to ensure healthy teeth for your children is to lead by example. Practice exceptional oral hygiene habits yourself, and teach your children that protecting their mouth from bacteria and germs can greatly reduce their risk of developing cavities. Here are a few tips to share with your children to help them learn healthy oral habits and to celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month:

  • Brush at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
  • Floss every day to remove plaque that forms between your teeth and along the gum line.
  • Avoid snacks that contain sugar and are sticky on your teeth. Encourage vegetables, fruits, whole grains and dairy for strong teeth and bones.
  • Schedule a check-up with an experienced dentist like Dr. Neeley. We recommend exams every six months and more often if there are concerns.
