Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most common type according to the American Sleep Apnea Association. This occurs when there is a blockage of the airways.
Certain people are at risk for development. Risk factors include: family history of the condition, gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), nasal obstructions, having large tonsils, being male, being overweight, and being 40 years of age or older.
